A recent international study has looked at why some people are more successful than others at work. A survey of more than 500 business leaders chose “personality” as the leading reason – more than cultural fit and even an employee’s skills. However, this article discusses the fact that when leaders describe “personality” they often don’t actually understand what they are referring to and often commonly mislabel EQ as personality characteristics. It goes on to explore the differences between the two and the skills that set exceptional employees apart, some of which include being willing to delay gratification, neutralising toxic people and holding themselves accountable.
