Hobson Leavy’s core ethos is ‘’Leaders Matter”. This understanding of the importance of having the right leader in an organisation is a driving force behind what we do. Our team is highly trained in spotting all the elements that make an individual a good leader. However, it is not often that the definition of leadership within an organisation and the effect of that definition on talented future leaders is assessed. The recent Mckinsey & Company article ‘’The Most Valuable Lessons of Women’s Leadership Programs are those that Show Organizations Where to Improve’’ draws on insights from in-depth interviews and its own Women’s Leadership events. It examines the definition of leadership and found that many organizations ‘’inadvertently embrace a narrow set of traditional leadership traits” and that valuable skills, often more closely associated with women’s leadership styles, are not recognised and rewarded in the same way that more masculine leadership styles are. Companies benefit from diverse leadership teams and this includes leadership style.
