Hobson Leavy is delighted to be partnering with Tainui Group Holdings Limited to find their new Manahautuu – Chief Executive Officer.
Tainui Group Holdings (TGH) is the commercial arm of Waikato-Tainui, managing a $2.1 billion portfolio to grow wealth for current and future generations of Waikato-Tainui. Its assets under management span real estate, natural resources, infrastructure, global equities and private equity, while also overseeing the four major trust funds of Waikato-Tainui. Guided by the principle “Whakatupu rawa, whakatupu taangata” – growing assets to grow the people – TGH delivers economic growth through an iwi lens.
As Manahautuu – Chief Executive Officer, you will report to the TGH Board of Directors and lead the organisation’s operations, financial management, and strategic direction. This role is pivotal in shaping TGH’s long-term success, ensuring it delivers sustainable growth while capturing and delivering the cultural values and aspirations of Waikato-Tainui and the principles of Kiingitanga.
You will build and maintain strong partnerships across the Waikato-Tainui ecosystem and beyond, including with iwi leadership, government, and business stakeholders. Overseeing TGH’s diverse investment portfolio, you will ensure the organisation is positioned to seize opportunities that enhance the prosperity and well-being of the iwi. Your leadership will require a holistic approach, balancing commercial objectives with social, cultural, and environmental responsibility, while staying true to the vision of “growing assets to grow the people.”
We are looking for an experienced leader with proven success at an executive level, particularly in managing large, complex organisations and delivering strong commercial outcomes. You will bring expertise in strategy, governance, and investment management, with the ability to work effectively with a professional board. A deep respect for the cultural context of Waikato-Tainui and a commitment to the principles of Kiingitanga are essential, ensuring that cultural integrity is woven into every decision.
A deep understanding of Tikanga Maaori and a commitment to TGH’s purpose are essential. Experience working within a Maaori business or iwi organisation will be highly regarded. Your leadership style will foster trust, collaboration, and alignment, ensuring TGH’s values are upheld in every decision.
This role is ideal for someone who is commercially astute, culturally grounded, and passionate about making a meaningful difference for Waikato-Tainui and its people.
