Hobson Leavy is delighted to announce Kris Fa’afoi has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer to Insurance Council of New Zealand Te Kāhui Inihua o Aotearoa(ICNZ).
A former Cabinet Minister, Hon. Kris Fa’afoi served as a member of Parliament for 12 years, between 2010 – 2022. As a List MP under the Labour Government, Kris oversaw a range of ministerial portfolios. He served as the Minister of Justice, Minister for Broadcasting and Media, Minister of Immigration and the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs. Prior to his political career, Kris spent nearly a decade as a journalist, including a period as a foreign correspondent in Australia.
ICNZ President, Amanda Whiting commented, “I’m delighted we are able to appoint someone of Kris’ calibre who has a track record of demonstrated leadership, together with extensive experience and understanding of the machinery of government and the financial sector… Kris is well known to many New Zealanders – he has a strong background in media, has served as a Minister, having had responsibility for many portfolios over his political career.”
Over the past 12 months, Kris has been growing his own consultancy, working with private sector clients on their government relations agenda.
The ICNZ described how Kris will bring “strong relationship building capabilities, global knowledge and an approach that will support the industry to build on its already strong reputation.”
Kris will commence with ICNZ on April 7th.
