Hobson Leavy are delighted to be partnering with Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) to appoint their new Chief Executive Officer.
Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA) is the membership organisation for the architecture industry, committed to supporting and promoting a community of over 4,000 members across Aotearoa, New Zealand. Te Kāhui Whaihanga NZIA represent over 90% of all registered architects in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Accountable to the NZIA Board and President, the Chief Executive Officer is responsible for the operational delivery and implementation of the Institute’s strategy. They will be responsible for developing and leading a high-performing and engaged team, who are committed to driving value for members across Aotearoa, including at regional branch level. Importantly, the CEO will embody and instil internally and externally the institute’s five values: Respect, Responsibility, Relevance, Reciprocity and Reverence – “the 5 Rs”.
The incoming CEO will champion New Zealand’s architecture sector in the media and public domain, including with central and local government, building credible, high-trust partnerships with a range of external stakeholders. The CEO will also engage with outside organisations to develop and produce high-quality resources, and advocate in partnership on issues related to the sector.
The successful candidate will bring seasoned people leadership capabilities and be comfortable engaging at board level. They will be a natural relationship-builder who connects authentically and with ease to engage widely with a broad spectrum of stakeholder groups, advocating externally for the sector and for its members. They will be comfortable incorporating Māori knowledge and tikanga into the Institute’s practices in accordance with Te Kawenata o Rata agreed with Ngā Aho in 2017.
The CEO will be commercially astute, highly strategic, and offer a track record of driving exceptional outcomes. Above all, this individual will be the voice to promote and create greater awareness of the value that the architecture profession, well designed buildings and public spaces bring to our cities and communities in Aotearoa.
