Hobson Leavy is thrilled to have partnered with Tonga Power (TPL) on the appointment of their Chief Executive Officer, and to announce that Scott Westbury has been appointed to this important role. In this role Scott will drive TPL’s continued progress and commitment to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions for the Kingdom of Tonga.
Scott brings extensive experience in the energy and resource sectors. He began his career at Rio Tinto, where he spent six years advancing from a maintenance superintendent to project manager. He then contributed 13 years of senior leadership at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited, managing reduction, metal products, and assets. From 2018 to 2024, Scott served as General Manager of Power Schemes, where he honed his expertise in managing complex power operations and supporting sustainable practices.
A seasoned professional, Scott holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Engineering Management from the same institution, and a Master of Engineering in Light Metals Reduction Technology from the University of Auckland. His comprehensive technical and leadership background positions him to lead TPL as it continues its mission to advance energy security and enhance the reliability of power generation and delivery for Tonga.
